Love the art, Sam! I'm procrastinating, too. Just can't bring myself to dust/vacuum. And, since most of my pneumonia is gone, I can't use it as an excuse.

Maybe tomorrow...

Procrastinating is just a natural thing we all do, I am person who hates to leave things to the last minute but sometimes happens...life happens. Like Beth Spencer mentioned the pomodoro technique is great in these scenarios, I use it now all the time and it helped me to focus hugely during my uni years! Beautiful drawings Samantha, your new book will be amazing ✨️ you got this! Happy 2024 and congratulations for the 1st Substack anniversary 🙂

Thank you, Teresa! I am going to try the pomodoro technique starting Monday! Will let you all know how it goes.

Do you ever do the pomodoro time blocking technique? It's all that got me through my roughs and thumbnails! I sometimes think in blocks of 25 minutes now! I'll sit down just for one block get more done in that 25 minutes than a whole day of drawing.

Love seeing your beautiful sketchbook pages here. The blackbird in the foreground makes me smile!

I need to try this! I feel like I sort of do it naturally with writing. Since I can only focus on writing in small block of complete silent time... A timer would be interesting. Is that what you do? When I am working on the drawings/illustrations I sort of go all day and do other things in between.

Yes! I bet it would work well for you. I ask Siri to set a timer for 25 minutes, then I get up and do something away from a screen for 5 minutes, then come back for 25 more. I'm not super strict about it, because it's me haha. But it gives me a nice little bit of structure and takes pressure off of needing to make a whole thing in one sitting. Let me know how it works for you if you try it!

I love how you reframed procrastination as a positive action. I catch myself putting things off by cleaning, taking a class, or working out -- which are all pretty rewarding. And maybe timed and location drawings sort of train us to work fast under pressure, right? Okay, now I'm procrastinating! 😉

You'll meet that manuscript deadline! Happy Substack-aversary, Sam!

Same same - we have the similar procrastination tactics. I took down the tree this morning and made two coffees. My gym bag packed up but it’s already 11 and I haven’t left home 😂 how is it already the 5th?! Next week is my week.
