I love how you draw collections of things -- ordinary everyday things we might take for granted on any given day, but here, under your pen, they are elevated to art! **Come back, come back and draw all the old radios, boats, lamps, and bed knobs around here with me!!!
I love old door knows, one day 100 trs from now the current design will be vintage, but not very unique I think.
Anyway your art is always spot on and enjoyable to see. Great inspirations, particularly favor your mini sketchbooks. I've been playing with mine when waiting for a food order. It's great to start and finish a little project in an hour.
So glad I subscribed to your newsletter. You artwork is just lovely. It's not easy to catch all the subtle textures and shadows and fine details on those door handles but you do it with grace. Beautiful. Thanks for the inspiring work.
Samantha, just a note of appreciation for your new substack-style newsletter. I love reading your musings and, of course, seeing your drawings/paintings. Old crystal door knobs are a favorite. I'm inspired to "see" the ordinary and draw it tonight. Thank you! Keep 'em coming.
I moved for the 1st time in my life 5 years ago, at age 60. Long story short, I ended up in the house next door. My lifelong home was built 26 years before my current home, and the 2nd floor doorknobs were all faceted glass. 3 bedrooms, 3 closet doors, and the bathroom door. There are people who look at these things in a house - and that also includes cupboards and counters, etc - and think they are all so "dated". I've moved one time in 65 years. And I simply look at things and decide if I like them. The doorknobs in my former house are still made. But they are probably considered old-fashioned. To my way of thinking, they have more character than simple "gold" doorknobs, particularly when the sunshine reflects through the facets.
Beautiful words and subjects! And to think I grew up with those door knobs when I was a kid and thought they were so old fashioned! Thanks for reminding me to appreciate the little things. You’re inspiring me to draw my world! ✏️
So beautiful Samantha, really enjoyed the mini door knobs drawings. I have a great passion for old doors, taking pictures of it is like a second hobby 😊 and just love how the ordinary things, which many times can be the most beautiful too, make us reflect so much and questioning. You are definitely not alone on this! ❤️
Oh my gosh! I could have written this same article, lol! I love this! I get on these kicks whee I am obsessed with small details like door handles, and I’ve taken pictures of my apartment door.
Thank you for your insights! I’ve also wondered about how many people have turned the handle, who they were, and what they were doing and thinking about.

Oooh I would love that!

I love just spending an hour on a small page - so much more manageable!
Beautiful. Such a nice reminder to slow down and really look at your surroundings. There's inspiration everywhere!

This is a wonderful reminder to notice the smaller things in life. Another inspirational post. Thank you!

so happy to know!
Love these ordinary object paintings! I have a doorknob on my list of things to sketch, but haven't gotten to it just yet.
Get to it! I would love to see! :)
