After my talk with Andy J. Pizza for his well-loved podcast, Creative Pep Talk, I found myself wanting more time to chat with him about his drawing practice, the way he moves between client work and personal projects, and how he’s liking Substack. I had plenty of other questions we didn’t get to, but we’ll definitely do this again. Next time I want to draw with Andy—and with so many other artist friends—so expect more live talks and drawing sessions in 2026.
Before we met, I asked Andy to create his version of the “road map” prompt. I write about this in my first book, Draw Your Day, and also teach the process in my very first Skillshare class, Sketchbook Illustration for All. It’s one of my go-to prompts when I teach, and people always enjoy it. I love Andy’s take: he illustrated his path to “do email,” starting with 8:30am coffee and eventually landing at his computer at 11.
I ended up doing a road map that same week too—mine is more abstract, just a loose collection of moments from a quick day trip to Philadelphia.
